Welcome back to Prove Me Wrong! I’m your host, AC2. Last time I told you opponauts to show me an ugly car that didn’t look better in the color white, using what is widely considered the world ugliest car, the Fiat Multipla as a poster child
This time around I dare you all to find me any car that doesn’t look better with black wheels. Now granted, I grew up in the Bronx, so black wheels were a common sight, so I might be a little biased. But I genuinely believe that black wheels make any car look better, so now, it’s your turn to decide if my opinion is the truth. Here are some examples:

In this case he’s still right

I am envious of the paint quality, however. Somebody did a very nice job.

This. Classic cars shouldn’t have black wheels or large diameter wheels.

Black steelies with dog dishes are a GREAT classic muscle car wheel

white cars with white wheels are awesome

That Multipla is giving me a strange boner.

Counterpoint: EVERY car looks worse with black wheels, so your premise is wrong.
Some cars look more dangerous, or more race-prepped, or just more unique with black wheels, but never “better.” The effect is always like someone who hasn’t cleaned their brake dust in a year.

VERY true. But with the chrome dog dishes, which I think is different from what the OP is suggesting.

Biggest that’s probably OK is 17" or 18". Past that looks donk-y.
Some stuff can look good with black wheels, though:

Very much, yes.
I’m a sucker for red over white wheels too.

I tend to agree that black wheels can look more purposeful, but rarely “better”

This only works for racing prepped cars:
Otherwise, it just looks neglected, or that someone is hiding the hubcaps from theft:
Otherwise, hubcaps please:

Yeah, I think that’s about the max diameter - and even that’s pushing it for a lot of cars.
And as LongbowMkII pointed out, I’d make an exception for steelies, or someone trying to recreate a race car look like that.

I’m honestly not a fan of black wheels for the most part. I’m sure they look good in certain situations, but for the most part the design of the wheel just gets lost.
Maybe they are different in person in the right lighting.

A championship white DC5 Type R with black wheels...it just doenst go...
I dont have a pic (Im sure you can find one online). It doesnt look bad, but it doesnt look better compared to a set of white wheels under the car. A DC2 on the other hand, is debatable (have seen a white dc2 with black wheels, it was hot!)...

TBH these days 17" wheels are common because performance 15" tires are tougher to find. 17s greatly increase your choices.

Black wheels are nice, but they can also make a car look jobby if done wrong.
For instance, this Civic looks like it was destroyed by a teenager.
As does this poor Camaro, which really needs more 80s-looking wheels.
And this is just a spray job from Barry’s back yard, which looks half-arsed.
I guess you can say it depends on the quality of the wheels in question more than their colour too, as you wouldn’t spray paint the rims on these now?
TL;DR:
Black wheels look good, but not on every car, and it depends on execution.

Only when you are trying to hide an ugly wheel design.
Kinja won’t let me post pics, but Ultramarine blue FR-S on F1 Silver RPF1s is glory, Ultramarine blue FR-S on Black RPF1s looks cheap.

Sadly true about 15" tires, but it’s not hard to understand why they’re hard to find.

black hides the details of a wheel. its fine for wheels that are not so well thought out. but wheels that have a more thought out deeper dish design, it just makes them look cheap, or generic.......

I want that

First one looks good, 2nd... That car is too ugly to look good.

yeah, the
Sebring
200 is fugly no matter what, but at least the white wheels help a little—not enough, but a little

Old Saturns look pretty bad with black wheels.

I suddenly have the urge to Plasti-Dip Phil’s wheels white.

Counter-Counterpoint, some cars are designed to have black wheels. :3

Glossy, tied to the bodywork...hmmm...I’LL ALLOW IT.

Wrong type of black wheels

Black wheels are the worst. Wheels shouldn’t be darker than tires.

Your car would certainly look better with black wheels
And a ws6 hood

I mean, the car as a whole looks like a POS, but the wheels wouldn’t look that bad if the car were all black or all white

“find me any car that doesn’t look better with black wheels” That car does not look better with black wheels, white wheels, you name it wheels that car looks terrible, therefore I’m right.
